  • Fortnightly Salon Competition No. 19 - The Summertime

Firstly a big thanks to Gina for running the last salon competition - Temptation. An excellent subject matter. Thanks so much for picking my little snap as a winner, the memory card will definately come in handy for when Coupebaby arrives!

The next subject I have chosen....following the recent bout of nice weather, and an increase in photo's from summer fetes and fairs is.........da dada da da da daaaaaa......

    The Summertime

The competition will close on the 25th June

OK, no excuses for not posting a picture of some sort, please dont feel intimidated or shy!

The subject matter can be interpreted exactly how you wish, I would love to see at least one picture of a youngster with a 99 Icecream plastered over the his/her face!

And dont forget the prize of a 2GB Memory card for the winner!

    OK, heres the rules:

    1) All photographs are to be uploaded to the photo gallery at http://dpnow.com/galleries/, they can be put in members own gallery if they wish. The resulting link generated for the photo will then be pasted into the next available space in the Salon thread.
    2) One entry per user ID only please, which must be the personal work of the entrant
    3) Entries should be "in line" within the thread (not as links to an image held somewhere else)
    4) Comments only on entries are welcome within the salon thread itself
    5) After the close the curator will indicate a winner and a couple of runners up.
    6) The curator's decision is final.
    7) Winners should be offered first refusal to choose the next theme and curate the next salon.
8.) If the winner is unable to curate the next salon the current curator may offer that "honour" to any willing volunteer, possibly the entrant in second or third place
    9) These rules are to be copied and pasted with a new theme by the new Curator at the top of the new Salon thread with a finish date and time
    10) As with all photos posted on DPNow, copyright remains with the photographer and DPNow will not use them without permission.

            Ben,

What says summertime better than a trip down to the pond to go fishing! My 13 year old daughter caught this 19 inch long Catfish and she was very proud!

It can't be an English summer, Paul - the sun is shining!

Mind you - she is wearing a wooly cardie, so maybe it is after all

I've got a fan blowing over my fish tank now 24 hours. If anyone is interested in tropical fish - I have set up a special gallery of my own on this subject (warning, probably very boring if you aren't in the hobby! )

Well, that was a nice day in April but still needed the cardy.

And remember if we have more than 2 weeks of sun we run out of water, the country grinds to a halt and people start dropping dead from the heat!

Out of interest Ian, why have you got a fan blowing on your tropical fish tank.

Unless you leave your lid off, it wont cool the tank, as you need to force the water to evaporate to cool it.

The lid (or the 'hood') has two sliding doors in it over the top. I've slid both open enough for an air flow, but hopefully not enough for the fish to jump out (or the shrimp to crawl out ). The fan is basically blowing air into one slot and the air is exitng through the other. I'm using a small desk fan at the moment but the intention is to use a 4 inch PSU fan and make it less make-shift.

It does work - before I started using the fan the tank temperature was hitting 82F (being warmed by the lights which are on 10 hours a day for the plants in the tank). Now I'm getting a temp of around 76 or 77F, which is about perfect.

Have you forgotten to put the last day of entry to competition, as I cant seem to find it.
                            Thanks.

However, I'm going Queensland....South Pacific country, subtropics, whatever you may call it,:b at the beginning of July & was really hoping to have a 2 gigabyte memory card by then, so I can bring back loads of pics to make you people envious!! I'll have to go thru' the old archives for a relevant 'Summertime....& the livin' is easy...pic!
