Hopefully if I have a quiet weekend this weekend, I am going to try and capture the Woodpecker in flight.

They are nervouse fellas, so I am not holding my breath!
You jammy so and so Ben - there was a shout from the sofa on Sunday... himself had just finished his weekend Birdwatch so it didn't count , but the greater spotted woodpecker has returned to my garden after a gap of least 12 years - can't remember when I saw it last as the nest was taken over years ago by starlings. (Talking of which, there are only about 5 visiting the garden at present - where have they all gone?)

But back to the woodpecker... of course by the time I'd grabbed my camera, it had gone...

Pops, I think this is one of the nicest shots of our freind I have seen for a long time. Lovely capture!

Out of interest, how much has this been cropped?

About a third was cropped from the rear. I did that to take out a post which was in front of his tail and rear end. I had moved his supply of nuts and bought him much closer to my shooting location (inside the shed doorway)

Did some work arranging the doorway yesterday and it paid off within minutes.
Just hung a curtain on the inside of the doorway. I now sit behind the curtain with just the hood poking through. No sooner had I sat down than a couple of long tailed-tits came down for a feast folowed by a greenfinch. They have never come this close before so I'm looking forward to some real closeups when the weather lifts.

Thanks for your comments. Very encouraging

Well I did manage to get outside for an hour this afternoon, well wrapped up of course. Culled the shots down to 3 for showing here and couldn't decide which to with so.....you have all 3. :-)

The streaks you can see is snow which had just started to fall.

Male Chaffinch, now a regular visitor

My favourite Robin, always reliable for striking a pose.

Starling ... don't see many of these

What is lovely set of images you have there Pops. No intrusive background, catchlight in their eyes. Well exposed with a fair amount of detail.

                              Nicely positioned within the frame.

                              Excellent!

Here is an image I don't think I have ever posted before. I took the photograph when our cruise ship called into the Island of St Helena, West Africa in 2002. Jonathan was roaming in the grounds of the Governor's Residence and had been (it was said) for over 200 years.
