It is a form of Scottish Ornamental Thistle may even be a Cardoum.(My wife does the planting) - I do the mowing! and any landscaping and building greenhouses and........

We were quite some distance I was using an Olympus E-3 (My 65th Birthday gift from Anne 12 days ago) with a 70-300 lens. I used A mode F6.3 1/200" iso 400 and a focal length of 120mm.
They not only have amazing hearing but also seem to have good eyesight. They see you before you see them - unless you are lucky.

There are some tame ones that will almost eat out of your hands at Knole Park Kent - well worth a visit. The grounds are quite extensive and the house is worth exploring - steeped in history.
