Re: Challenge: Where is this? IV
Just by way of a small clue, this is a fairly unique type of lock. I think only four were ever built in the UK.Being left handed my brain sometimes works sdrawkcab

Re: Challenge: Where is this? IV
Hmm! I'd originally thought 'sluice' rather than 'lock', but, if I'm right about the location, I presume it's a guillotine stop lock. I think it's where the Old River Lea joins the City Mill River. However, that was then, and now it's probably under what the QE Olympic Park call Carpenters' Lock.Originally posted by andym View PostJust by way of a small clue, this is a fairly unique type of lock. Re: Challenge: Where is this? IV
Yes you're right it is the old Carpenters Road lock although I know it as a radial rising lock.
I used to wander around the area known as the Bow Back rivers before the stadium was built. This lock was due for restoration after the Olympics but i believe that has now been shelved.
Another bit of industrial history lost.

Well done and over to you.Being left handed my brain sometimes works sdrawkcab

Re: Challenge: Where is this? IV
Thanks, Andy. You obviously know more about locks than I, and I agree about the loss if the lock isn't going to be restored. I went down to the park when it opened, and Carpenter's Lock looked like a municipal pedestrian overpass! Very depressing. Have you seen this website (which has good animations of the different types of lock) www.kgal.co.uk/rising_sector_gates.html
Anyway, on to the next:
