I can only guess at somewhere round Dungeness?

Just take it easy. There's always tomorrow. And if tomorrow doesn't come, you won't have wasted any effort on it.

Sorry, but no. Hint: it protected a small port.

I'm stumped with this one. It's looks like a shingle beach beyond with Sea Cabbage growing on it so can understand Stephens guess at Dungeness.

The only place I can think of with red brick fortifications like this is the Isle of Wight but the walls don't look right and not sure about shingle on the IOW.

          Clue time I think

Yes, once East Anglia was kicked out I was trying to think of other places using this type of brick and stone.

Just found it. It's Shoreham Redoubt/Fort, West Sussex.

Well done! It's one of the few surviving Carnot Walls in England (the best of the others is at Littlehampton). The loopholed wall is in the bottom of the ditch where an attacker would not see it before getting to the edge.

BTW, Lazare Carnot (1753-1823) was a French military engineer and politician who survived the Revolution and the Terror, but resigned office when Napoleon assumed hereditary rule (although he returned as Minister of the Interior during the 100 Days).

End oflecture, and over to you!

Is it in Kent? It reminds me of an Oust House.

Not Kent or Wakefield, no. Kent is nearer.

I keep looking at the map on the RHS, looks like an earthwork or similar. The only place I can think of at the mom with a village in an earth bank is Avebury but I don't think its that.

                              Hmmmm. More digging required.

To me, it looks more like a horizon map/guide, but that doesn't get me any closer to a location! The stair turret looks like ironstone, but that doesn't narrow thinngs down much.
