In my day spud guns were usually made of metal! The posh ones looked like this: http://i31.tinypic.com/15eju3o.jpg and could fire caps too.

I don't think this will take too long, but rather than wait longer to take a new photo here is one that I had earlier.

I don't think clues will be required.

No guesses yet? To clarify my clue, this is a very common object that most people will have at least one of, it is not normally related to photography although this particular one is.
