Thank you. Beginning to regain some confidence, intensive physio helping. Beginning to believe I. CAN get properly mobile again though it might take quite a while. I only just turned 72, not too old at all.

Certainly not Pol. You are just a chicken. Once you have regained your strength physically and mentally, you will find doors opening for you.

We belong to the U3A and there are lots of various interest groups within each local group. We belong to the Photography and Wine Tasting Group. Also the Travel Group. I will send you a link to the Worksop one so that you can see how many different groups are available.

I don't know where you live, but I am sure that there would be one near you. There are also Luncheon, and Theatre Groups.

Phone very dodgy, internet virtually non existent. Will be in here at least another 3-4 weeks. Audrey, home us Tunbridge Wells, thanks for info, watched tv program about u3a with Maureen Lipman. Looks good though dunno about that sort of thing on my own, without David. Dunno if they'd renew my drivers license either. We shall see, first things first. Physio very hard work but helping. Walked length of corridor and back today with a physio behind me, sat in day room a while them walked back to conservatory adjoining my room.
Take care, dunno when I can drop in again. Running out of data allowance, dodgy phone and terrible connections.

Glad you are improving Pol and I know it's going to take weeks for your physical and mental state to be ready to move on, particularly on your own.
However, should you desire to try the Tunbridge U3A which takes place in the Camden Centre on the 3rd Thursday every month at 2.30pm, when they have a speaker.

They have 90 interest groups including Photography. I am sending a link and you will see from the photograph that the members are mainly ladies, but it tells you their aims. Not sure where the Photo Group meet.

In our U3A I would think 80% are female, so don't be put off being on your own. I have just joined a gym on my own. It is a Charity and it was started for people who have been ill (like you and I) and would not want to go to a proper gym, but anyone can join. The machines are electrically operated and help you to exercise various parts of your body with or without your effort.

I am sure once you are home and feeling stronger, it would do you good to go to something like the U3A. People are so friendly.

My friend used to live in Tunbridge Wells and we stayed with her once. Her son still lives there in a flat - Kings Crescent or Road?

Bless you, Audrey, that looks like a distinct possibility for me in future. BTW Crescent Road is in the town centre, very nice too. Always envied people who had flats there, very trendy. Also amazed no WiFi here, cheesed off about it, phone can't handle 'll I want to do. Long wAlk with physio today. Met inspirational lady in day room, slightly older than me but walking quite well with just a stick after serious accident when her dog knocked her over, two broken legs, broken arm etc. Has a farmhouse too, cheered me up enormously.

Pol I mean this in the nicest way possible. I'm so glad the you and Audrey have something in common and are able to talk about the future. I also looked up the U3A but no joy around here. Would be a great help to you if you did go as you need something to look forward to and take an interest in. Don't fret over no wifi as you can always contact me and I will post here anything you want to pass to me.

I'm home, very tired but also very glad to be back home.
Thanks for all the support. It really did help a lot.
Some bad experiences in rehabilitation, a few very nasty agency staff but physiotherapists were brilliant. Walking better, lighter frames and will be having ongoing physio at home from community physiotherapy.

Thanks, Garry. Aiming to get walking with just a stick or trekking pole again eventually but we'll just have to see how it goes. Currently needing a frame as a result of an injury to my good ankle a few months ago.

One particular physiotherapist was brilliant, spent ages helping me use that particular ankle again without it hurting so much.

Initial fears of Aortic Stenosis proved groundless, thank goodness.

Lol! I found that my Manfrotto carbon fibre monopod has a good grip and strong strap, and has helped me as a walking aid in the past.

Hope that now you are home, you will be able to keep in contact with us all at DPNow, more. ( When you feel up to it )

Welcome home Pol. There is nowhere like it. I hope that you continue to make good progress and that your physiotherapist is kind to you.

Went for a BP check this week and the Dr thought I may have an irregular heart beat so now I have to have an ECG on Wednesday and my cataract done on Thursday, hopefully. I have had to cancel twice before because I was in hospital. These things seem to be ongoing, but we are very lucky that people are there for us. I have no complaints about the NHS.

Thanks Audrey, I'm certainty glad to be home, to eat as and when and what I wish. Richard and I have been enjoying fresh cream doughnuts, hot chocolate with Battenburg and aero chocolate mousse as well as yeo valley honey greek yoghurts asvwell as chips and beef hotpot. Such a treat after loads of vegetarian mush inflicted on me in hospital (soft diet due to dental deep cleaning that made my gums sore and teeth to feel loose).

Gonna be a fat ladyvat this rate.

They thought I had all sorts of cardiac irregularities but not so after endless tests, scans etc. It was all down to weight loss, bereavements, stress etc. I was also on Statins for a couple of weeks but my cholesterol levels also settled to within normal limits. So the main aim now is to build up muscle strength and confidence to continue increasing and improving mobility.
I wanna be rid of the frame and back to stick or trekking pole if possible so we'll have to see how it goes.

The physios were brilliant both hospitals. I can't say the SAME about some of the agency nurses but that's the way things are these days. Beautiful gardens and surroundings at Edenbridge though. One of the physios took me into the gardens on warmer days and that was a real treat, despite hayfever ... manageable wth nasal sprays.

Good luck with the cataract treatment. You should feel the benefits very soon.

Many thanks for all the support and encouragement too. It meant a lot to me. Sorry I couldn't post much, no internet there and my phone ran out if data after updating it twice.

nope, appetite was never a problem.

The other aim is to be able to use the main oven and cook. Standing at the sink to prepare veg etc is very difficult for me. Physio gave me a perching stool
and that helps but only to a certain extent.
