You could always wear a paper bag over yer head and pretend yer not there and it's not yours anyway, like I do. Maybe I'll remove the bag after I've got around to putting white sleeves on the lenses.

Yer not that old either, young'un!!

When I read things like Shutter actuation's count, dust on sensors, Zoom lenses as long as your arm and many other DSLR problems, I'll stick with my little baby. At least if it goes wrong I can pop in the local camera shop and buy another. Don't even have to worry if it's the same make. No lens compatibility issues here. And the great thing about being OLD is that I've learnt to make the most of what I have. Upgrading don't make you a better photographer that's for sure.

lumix fz5,,, casio z1000... for me,, i,ll get lots more pics, with these, for less cash & less hassle, than an exspensive slr, indoors, because i could not be bothered to lug it around, have not seen an slr being carried around for years,,, see lots of compacts,,, thats the answer,,, people like the camera in their pocket or handbag , so convenient.

dSLR is an Olympus E1 with 35mm macro, 14-54mm and 40-150mm lenses.

Before that I had an Olympus C5060 which was my first digital camera and won on this very forum.

Still use film cameras as well: Leica M6 and Ricoh GR1s.

Can I kind of clarify what you are saying?

Did you mean that when you created the poll you expected most of the votes to be DSLR ones? But the number of pro-compact (non-DSLR) responses was a surprise?

I think Stephen took you literally when you sy 'all' and 'everyone' - when I suspect you really meant 'more than I had expected'?

Panasonic DMC FX01 is my first digital camera, and being a newbie to this game I am very pleased with it. The wife likes it also and finds it really easy to use and takes better pictures than me . I've not managed to find out all that it does yet but if it ever brightens up, then we'll be able to get out and shoot things with ease.

Re: What Type of Camera you use

Having played with a Kodak C340 for over a year and become relatively proficient in taking photographs and using the computer to advantage, I have now bought myself a Canon 350D with the 18-50mm kit lens and a 55-200mm lens. Of course only time will tell if I can get my head around it and produce some really good results to make it worth my while. But it is a fascinating hobby, and gives me hours of pleasure. I personally wouldn't like to go back to film cameras (I did have a Pentax many years ago), the immediacy of digital is wonderful.

You got it right on, I where under the impression that this is mostly for DSLR users, But, I was surprised.

This is now even more inspiring to see the Awesome photos taken, and to think that The opportunity is there, I just need to learn, learn learn..

Same as SFL, him being my other half.

Some strange results in the poll at the top of the page, it adds up to 120.83% can this be right?

Hey Harry! Good to see you here; your better half is quite a regular these days so you have some catching up to do!

The poll is not a single-choice type. I voted for all three as they all do apply. It could have been set to a single choice, in which case the numbers would have added up to 100.

Seeing as this interesting thread has revealed quite a few people don't have DSLRs and would possibly like to own one - don't forget that someone will win one from us this month - it could be you!

We're giving away an Olympus E-330 Live View DSLR - it's one of a unique selection of interchangeable lens DSLRs, all based on technology developed jointly by Olympus and Panasonic, that provides an option to view through the lens electronically via an LCD that also tilts, like a non-DSLR camera, as well as optically through an eye-level viewfinder, like a conventional DSLR.

Don't miss your chance to win one - full details here:

I just voted for Compact Digital (a Powershot S2 IS). I've been using it for a year and it has taught me a heck of a lot about using a camera. Time to upgrade. I'm joing the DSLR gang soon after the festivities. The S2 is great, but feels too slow, and is not great in low light (without flash).
