    Re: Trip to London

    Hi,

I'll answer the questions one by one

Does it have a memory card slot?

Nope but it has 8GB of internal memory. which is more than enough for my music and right now I am carrying 8 episodes of spooks, the bourne identity, the bourne supremacy, two episodes of alan partridge, one episode of life on mars and 3 episodes of father ted. And a selection of my fav photos.

How good is battery life and can you change the battery yourself?
I don't think you change the battery but this is what I did with the battery yesterday and it did not run out. It was switched at 6.30am. I then picked up my email using GPRS and surfed the net again with GPRS for approx 20 mins. I then watched 1 hour of video.

The phone was left on all day in fact the data page says 12 hours and 20 mins since last charge and use is 5 hours and 45 mins, call time was 19 mins. During the day I did a fair bit of surfing and picking up emails using edge and then watched another hour of video on the way home. At this point I got a warning that there was only 20% battery power. So not too bad at all.

Does it have a GPS receiver built in?

    No

I've heard the screen gets dirty quite quickly?
It is a touch screen so fingerprints do happen but the screen is so bright when on it is not an issue and they come off quickly.

When do you think Apple will recall them because the battery dies prematurely
Ho Ho With any luck all the bugs were worked out during the US launch 6 months ago

Stephen you are right about the on contract thing. Would have been a lot simpler for me to stick with vodaphone. But I travel so often that the ability to get on a plane, unhook my phone from my belt and settle into a movie makes it worth every penny.

That all said, even if you will never buy one go to a O2, or CPW or apple store and have a play. Apple have pushed phone technology on so much with this product the others will have to respond which has to be good news for us. The key point is simplicity. e.g. I have had email capability on my phone for years but could never get it to work. The Iphone plugged into itunes, asked me whether I wanted my email set up, I said yes and that was it.

Have a look at the apple website they have some great videos there.

As regards the pics from yesterday, they are still on the P3000 I fell asleep at 9pm yesterday and today I have been "asked" the spend time with the children. Wonder if I should sneak my camera out with us

    Best Regards

      Re: Trip to London

Well done getting published – I think my exhibition gets a mention in the new issue – not been past a WH Smith's to have a look yet ;-)

Glad you're enjoying the iPhone. Don't worry about these old codgers moaning – it's cost you less than Vista would have! I'm sure Ian will enjoy his Zune phone when Microsoft copy - I mean invent it ;-)

For the time being I'll stick with my bog standard 4g iPod for the time being – mainly because I rarely use a phone!

        Re: Trip to London

As far as 'Pod' is concerned I dread the word and the power it has.
I was out two weekends ago shooting around the Pontoon Dock area of the Thames bank and a squad car pulled up beside me and out came two officers wanting to know why I was photographing in the area. They asked to see the shot they saw me taking (which was harmless) and happily they did not ask me to playback all the earlier ones which included shots of huge satellite dishes and some others where I had to trespass just a little on private property.
Anyway they relieved me of my name and address in lieu of ID (which I did not have on me)and when they confirmed that I was who I said I was we all went on our merry way. Apparantly they fret a little when the City Airport was nearby and in danger of being blown up by me and my Irish accent and not too long a lens .
The weekend was a very productive one for me but I was out a bit further on the river last weekend and brought home literally sweet fa.
So I hope Josh you had no disturbances on your day out and had a productive day.
Next job for me will be the west end of the river (the posher end) and hopefully some thing interestin will come from that.

No disturbances for me. Honestly I don't think I have anything that will impress the way "henley at dawn" picture did. I just enjoyed being out with the camera. I am a total amteur at this game and am constantly in awe of some of the posters on this site.

I even enjoyed the 437 steps to the golden gallery at the top of St Pauls. The views were amazing but they throw you out before sundown!

Off the top of my head, the Nokia N95 has all the iPhone features (apart from a touch screen) and more, plus SatNav and user changeable battery and although it's not as slim it's shorter and more robust.

              Re: Trip to London

I'd say the nokia has all the specs but not the functionality e.g. visual voicemail, ipod, the amazing touchscreen. At the end of the day my music and videos are in Itunes, I carry an ipod and now I don't have too.

For people out there, go and play with the nokia and then the iphone and see which one puts a smile on your face and if you get on which one makes friends stop and say "wow".

i just impressed my wife by bringing up google maps of the Uk and typing fat face. Immediately these little red pins appeared on the map showing the locations of each of the shops. That probably wasn't a good idea"!

Here is a link to a video page at apple. I would recommend the TV adverts. They do the device much more justice than me.

Designed for Apple Intelligence. Discover iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone Air and iPhone 17, along with iPhone 16 and iPhone 16e.
