    Still experimenting!

One obvious advantage of a converted camera, especially when photographing trees, is that the exposure will be enough to freeze most action, while the long exposures required by using a filter on a non-converted camera will mean movement of the subject swaying in the wind ending up sapping some of the crispness from the result.

Yes Ian, but how do you swap the channels.

Sorry, its something I am not familiar with.

In the PS channel mixer, with the red channel source displayed, switch the red from 100% to zero and blue from zero to 100%, then with the blue channel displayed switch the blue from 100% to zero and the red from zero to 100%.

not astro, but one from the test shots upon getting the camera....

shot in jpg with whatever custom WB patrick had left it on. did do some raw, but LR doesn't go low enough on the white balance to get anything approaching the tones in the above.

            Re: IR Real or Simulated

I've noted that some like to use a very low colour temperature as a starting point (easy to do if you are shooting RAW). This one was set to 2100K:

            False colour

            Mono

Once again, swapped the red and blue channels and then adjusted to my preference using colour balance, saturation, levels, etc.

Looks like blue channel noise is making its self known! Will attempt to address that next time.

                Re: IR Real or Simulated

I would have guessed, the second image also. A fake IR always lightens things, other than the ones it should ought too. It seems fakes also never get the dark sky, just exactly right.

I've got a Hoya RM72 coming for my G12, I'll try it out when it gets here.

Well my RM72 arrived just a short while ago, but its socked in cloudy because of the latest "hurry-cane" . So as soon as the sun shines again, I will try it out.
