Lately I've been struggling to lug around my tripod and gear, so my partner got me the new Lowepro passport sling bag for my birthday a couple of days ago. Although I've yet to try it out, I like the design and it looks like it'll be handy if I'm just carrying a couple of lenses and a body about.

Pols link to the trekking pole was interesting - I used to be able to borrow a Manfrotto monopod cum walking stick, but can't find one online. However, I have found this: http://www.jessops.com/online.store/...6995/show.html - does anyone know of anything similar?
    Caz,

Brasher have, or had, a monopod walking pole but I'm not sure if it's available these days. My husband has one but finds it's only suitable for a small compoact or maybe binos.

    Here's a picci of the Brasher Mono-Pole
You just unscrew the black knob on the top and there's a camera mounting screw beneath.

TBH that Jessops mono-pole looks better than his Brasher.

I also have a sturdy framed 4 wheel shopping trolley that I use. The top can be used as a seat so it may be suitable for you if the sling bag is too heavy. We use mine for all sorts of things - spare lenses, telescoped poles or whatever else we want with us but don't want to be carrying. It's good for the street, promenades, some of the Nature Reserve pathways. I need David to lift it in and out of the camper for me though - but he doesn't mind as we both stuff our kit into it and we both use it as a seat.

I'll see if I can dig out a link for you to see what you think. I'll post again when I have a link.

Here's the manufacturer's link showing details

And here's a link showing the best offer I could find online

They also make a 2 wheeled version (the Escort) but you really need the 4 wheeled version as you can push it rather than pulling it. It really is very strong container with padded top for a seat. The 'caged' frame is very sturdy.

Thank you so much for your help. Not been online much this week due to being on the creaky side... ruddy damp weather... and then to cap it all my daughter took me on a spa experience day last weekend as a xmas/birthday/mother's day present and I reacted to something in the water - I can see clearly now the conjunctivitis has gone !

Unfortunately that Jessops stick has now sold out online (I was told in Leicester Jessops that they were giving them away free when you bought a camera last year); so I've found something similar to that one you recommended on Amazon ([ame="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hama-Alpenpod-Walking-Monopod-Cameras/dp/B002DOUXSA/ref=pd_cp_ce_0"]Hama Alpenpod Walking Stick with Monopod for DSLR: Amazon.co.uk: Camera & Photo[/ame]). It's only a tenner, so I'll let you know what it's like when it arrives.

I've also passed your link about the Brasher walking stick on to my partner who needs to use one occasionally due to a dupatrons contraction in his foot, and mine's way too short!

I shall save the links to the trolleys for future reference - as the only driver, I usually do the shopping and leave it to himself to get it in and out of the car...
