  • Re: Challenge: Where is this? IV

Two churches in one churchyard. Can't be too many of those.

Willingale, in Essex, seems to be a candidate as it's relatively local for you!

Just take it easy. There's always tomorrow. And if tomorrow doesn't come, you won't have wasted any effort on it.

OK - sticking to the churchy theme: (bonus points if you can say where it was shot from)

It looks like the one close by the 42st Port Authority Bus Station in NYC

              Wrong city, continent, and hemisphere.

              Apart from that, you're close!

Is it St Paul's Cathedral in Melbourne (designed by Butterfield, and with all sorts of building problems because he refused to come out to Melbourne and help!)? The towers and spires are 20th century extras.

I think that's the dome of Flinders Street Station in the foreground, but I'm stumped as to your location, as I can't find any building that would give you that angle. Were you in a helicopter?

Location is spot-on, but no bonus points. I was on the observation platform of the Eureka tower, the highest obs platform in the southern hemisphere.

Location is amazing - says a lot for the lens used!

                    Anyway, my next offering:

Looks a bit like Tattershall Castle but I'm not sure.

Mike, you're broadly in the correct time-frame, but it's not Tattersall.

                          Is it time for clues?

                          1. St. Hugh

                          2. Pomegranate

                          Sorry for being cryptic!

I in itially thought it was Bishops Palace, Ely but I think it's more likely Buckden Towers. That was another of St Hugh's gaffs, not that he was short of them.

Correct. The pomegranate was Katherine of Aragon's badge and she was lodged at Buckden before being moved to Kimbolton. There is a knot garden named after her at Buckden.

                              Over to you!

I have to admit I didn't get the Pomegranate reference but St Hugh helped me narrow it down.
