            absolutely no idea. the closest i can come up with is it is some kind of dont-get-stabbed-on-a-spike protector.

                    We did a shoot in a studio that had S&M gear... Similar "ingredients" but used in a whole different way

                            just did a google images search on 'such things' and produced a very odd cross section of the internet! :-0
