It's not often I stump you.... According to one of our mutual groups on flickr (Officially) England's Best Buildings, it's Grade I listed, but I didn't think the shot was good enough to add to the group.
At one time, it was the entrance to a large country estate, which has now been sold off - although I believe the family concerned still own this part. It's mostly free entry (except for Boxing Day and Easter Monday)
No, wrong county and I don't think Woburn is on the A5. When the estate was broken up, the owner retained this. He sold part of the estate to a Russian gentleman - you may have seen a programme about it and what he's done. In fact, the family who sold the estate owned a great deal of the town (this is still just outside the developed area). Besides the sport which takes place here, the owner was also known for sports which are very popular on this site...
I think this one's died a death - I didn't think it was that difficult, but there again it's fairly local to me, and only about a mile from where I work.
Nowadays it's a conference centre and a sporting venue, although only open for just over half the year as the going can get a little difficult some times.
Phew! decided to have yet another search after unsucessfully trawling the length of the A5 (virtual of course) last week and I've just found found it. ItsTowcaster racecourse and conference centre.
