  • Re: Challenge - Where is this? III

OK, who'd like first to guess the era of the building? That would be a good start.

It's a restored house of British design and original ownership, but not in Britain.

I see from the exif it was taken in February so we are looking for a warm, sunny climate where trees blossom and flowers bloom at that time of year. The house has a colonial look about it, so I would guess latter 19th Century somewhere like Bermuda. I'm probably both miles and years out, but this one has me stumped at the moment.

        Oh, the power of Google!

I was several centuries out on date but geographically not a million miles away. It is, I believe, St Nicholas Abbey in Barbados.

Give the man a cigar (or a glass of St Nicholas rum, if you prefer!).

Yes, this is an original jacobean plantation house - I believe it's one of only 2 surviving houses of that age in the western hemisphere. The owners run an excellent series of initiatives on the property - sugar cane fields, rum distillery, restaurant etc. and it's very much worth a visit.

          Over to you...

Thanks Mark, I'll delve into the archives later for something suitable to post.

I'm fairly sure I've been there (or places very much like it) but I'll give someone else a go first...

Good guess, but its not Bekonscot. This model is situated in the place it is a model of. If I showed an Image of the building it would be identified in an instant!

The original building, bought as a holiday home, was demolished to put up this rural retreat.

                              It looks horrible :-)

                              Colditz? :-)

Not Colditz, the actual building and gardens are much nicer than the model. Italianate in design, but in UK.
