I can't recall ever seeing a Mistle Thrush though we get Song Thrush regularly.

We had some excitement today though - we had a Goldcrest visiting. David was up a ladder pruning back the Bird Cherry trees and it came onto a branch to watch him. It was quite close to him too! No photos, neither of us had a camera handy - too intent on safety with the ladders, saws and pruners!

I think I may have seen it a year or so ago but wasn't certain. There was no doubt today though.

I can usually tell the difference now but sometimes have to get the bino's out to make sure. I think the Mistle stands more upright, seems a bit bigger and also looks more of a grey colour than the Song Thrushes buff colour. I bet you've seen a few but not noticed the small differences.

The Goldcrest must have been a nice surprise.

Not doing much atm but the Redwings are here now and have promised myself I will get a shot or two this year as they, and Fieldfares regulary drop on my lawn, sometimes in large numbers but only for very short periods.

Pol, here's a Mistle Thrush in my garden last winter.

Not the best shot as the sun went in as it came hopping towards me.

It's a nice picture! I especially like the 'tuft' on the top of its head.

I'm fairly sure we've never had one visiting - there are certainly none amongst my snaps anyway. We've sometimes had an occasional Redwing visiting but it hasn't appeared for a couple of years or more. No Fieldfare either.

I'm now hoping to get a shot of a Goldcrest. I didn't realise they could be so nosey and friendly. It watched David for a couple of minutes or so, rather like a Robin might watch someone digging the soil.
