I suspect the apparent distortion of the shape of the sun would be due to the convection currents creating those 'waves'. It's more obvious at horizon level, where the heat is rising more densely off the water, but tails off (thins out) higher up. Convection often spoils any chance of long shots off the marshes - makes everything milky and blurred (and consigned to the bin).
I love the inclusion of the Gull. It creates the 'sound' of the sea scene imho.
