  • Watching the Ibiza Sunset

Having spent 7 days with the pentax 10d I actually got quite attached, alot smaller than my nikon, excellent battery life, I did take a charger and spare battery but did not need either but I did find some faults, probably not the camera itself but more the lens.
It struggled to focus on distant objects, and it was pretty hard work getting it to do what I wanted, but this said I was not used to the menu and layout of the camera.
I think had I not been spoilt with the d200, I would have this cam as my main tool, well built, compact and very good quality pictures, even with the standard lens I had.
I took this shot in the blink of an eye, its one of those where you see it and you hav'nt got time to think you just shoot, you no the scene is good, but because you do it so fast you always have doubts wether it will come out ok.

I like this, and an interesting twist to the normal sunset pictures you see. The faces are very sharply focused, but can still be called a sunset, any others from that location?

      Different!
Re the focus, a lot of people use that god awful Ai-AF (as Canon calls it) or Artifical Intelligent Auto Focus, where it will take a focal point, at what only can be described as a random point.

So if you are trying to focus off in the distance, it may capture a focal point in the forground. Personally I hate it, and wonder if maybe this was switched on, on your camera?

If it was, turn it off is the best advice I can give!

That must be something used in auto mode that Im not aware of, most of the time I used manual mode and spot focussing, much more control.
          Thanks anyway.
