These are wonderful, great fun. You may not be a Sumo wrestler (yet) but you must be strong and fit already to have made the climb and reached the top in that strong wind.

What does the sign say on the pole at the top? I'm guessing it probably says "summit" - is that right?

      Keep eating.

            Hi Yoshi,

Great photos, but it would be even better had you use slower shutter speed to enhance the movement and the velocity of the wind.

Thanks, Ian. The rope way brought me to the place of 50% height of the mountain and the skiing lift added another 20%. So I climbed only the remaining 30% or less. - 60-90 minutes or so plus time for photo taking.

As far as cameras are concerned I do not chase after the most advanced features but for transportation means I love all the convenient alternatives and avoid walking whenever possible - saying "I need to save energy to take pix."

Thank you Pol. I knew you would understand it. - It says "chou jou" meaning "summit".

and another thanks for your generous words! With your permission, I do not hesitate to ignore all the dumb medical doctors advices. Just keep on EATING and DRINKING!

                  Hi Jennifer, Many thanks.
I found pix of this mountain at GoogleEarth/Paranomia. When you scroll down the linked page, you will find the map of the exact place at the bottom right.

Hi Pops, yes their facial expressions tell a lot. Shame I did not take a pic of mine. What kind of facial expression I had when I was blown away? - I just recall I anticipated some injury. - I paid due attention to protect the body and the lens - but not myself. I was just lucky then.

Hi Danny. Yes, I should have thought about it.
At that moment I just wanted to move away from the summit as soon as I touched the pole. Small stones were hitting me and camera bodies all the time.

The exif say they were taken at ISO800, F6.3, 400th - 500th sec. and mostly around 35mm focal length. Until I arrived at the summit, I used lower ISOs most of the time so unconsciously I changed it to high ISO? - I do not remember.

Barbecue Japanese style! Last pic looks like Tuna! I love the precise & colourful presentation that is so typical of Japan or the Oriental countries! The following pics were taken by my stepson when he went to the World Karate Contest, last year!

They're truly amazing pictures. Well worth the effort, though it might be better not to try it again, not in a typhoon anyway.

So - did your friend actually manage to use his monopod after carrying it all the way up to the chou jou?

I think I will follow your advice next time. The strength of the wind just far exceeded my imagination. - and if I may add, I think I unduly over-evaluated my weight.
IIRC he never used it as a monopod - as a walking stick, he did use it.

Hi Jocelyn, after having a look of your pix, I'm now regretting that I should have uploaded a bit more beautiful food pics. Mine were taken at camping sites and often after starting to eat, so not good - maybe ugly ? I'm afraid
                              - sorry for that, if some of you felt like that.

BTW the beef on my pic was from Tasmania.
