I remember being ink monitor! Imagine a boy of 9 with a huge bottle of ink topping up the ink wells in each desk...imagine Mum moaning about the stains on the shirt, jumper, shorts (yes shorts!) legs etc.
Funny but I can smell the ink as I'm typing this.
IIRC we stopped using the old style "sticks with a nib" type pens in my next to last year at our village primary school and I'm not that old - that would have been circa 1962. I remember being given my first biro and being amazed by it.
We also had a real dunce's hat and we were made to stand in the corner facing the wall. Probably because we got our 12 x table wrong - bet my 21 & 23 year old kids couldn't get past their 5 x without a calculator!
