How about an aged sepia look Ron, just to give a bit of a victorian look.

Looks super to me. A return to some of these values wouldnt go a miss in this day and age either!

Ben the most important part of this image, for me that is, is the GREEN paint on the walls. That's how schools were in my days. And I would love a pound for every time my Dad quoted the message on the blackboard.

I don't recall double desks, but although I missed the ink-pot era, my desk at school certainly had endured that time

And desk inspections - had to keep the insides neat and tidy

Stephen has some special memories - don'tcha Stephen ? Oop the front end facing the wrong way!

If you mean during my years as a school teacher, I'd prefer not to be reminded

OMG! Classrooms all over the world must've had the same prescribed look & feel! I remember schools in Kenya as well as S.A. looking just like that! The old Abacus was a lethal weapon! I remember being hit on the head by an ill tempered teacher in the very early days of my primary school years, in Mombasa Primary School! The old inkwells & dipping pens caused such a mess, with blots & splashes! Mind you, there were lots of uses for the blotting paper supplied!! Especially if you had an elastic band close at hand!! My father also pointedly & relentlessly applied the rule advocated on the board! Anyhow, I agree that changing it to any other colour would detract from the impact on emotions & memories that it has as is!

              Same here.

There were still a few double desks when I started school and me and my best friend, Lesley, always grabbed the best one for ourselves.

The blackout curtains were still hanging at all the windows too. Some of them had faded to a sort of manky green to match the walls. Every Christmas we we were gathered into the assembly Hall, given jelly and ice cream. After we'd finished the 'party tea' the blackout curtains were drawn and they showed us a film of "Muffin the Mule" with Annette Mills. Same friggin films every year.

Those same wretched Muffin films are online now, complete with the Annette Mills. I have links somewhere but I'll spare you the agony.

              Wonderful picture, Ron.

Oh yes, I remember those desks, the blackboards and sentiments there on. the color scemes as well, not the clothing though, or the abacus, we were just entering the era of the paper book and the biro, but we were still expected to use the dipping pens though, and threats of the cane if any one had the nerve to use a biro.

                  Re: I remember it well

I must admit, I spent quite a long time standing there before I took the photo. It kind of hit me and all my memories of the school days and how the war had interrupted most lessons etc. came flooding back. I'm glad so many of you have enjoyed the image. One thing for sure, I've learnt that from now on when Stephen tells me something, I must remember to say "Yes Sir".

I can't go back as far as the abacus but the rest of it certainly stirs the brain cells

Great image Ron, brought memories back for a lot of us - especially those green walls! However, I don't remember any of my class rooms being so light... and where's the cane, ruler or slipper?
