      Just got a bee house up. Had one last year and spent hours watching them take up residence, lay their eggs and seal the holes.
      They don't mind me at all and I stand just a couple of feet away.

            I guess these are solitary bees? Looks fairly straightforward - you need some bamboo cut into lengths

              You can buy a bee 'house', bee 'hotel' or bee box at Amazon.co.uk. They have various names and they're also inexpensive - anything from about £7 to a tenner or thereabouts.

              Here's one example for £9-45

              [ame="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hotel-Flower-Seeds-Plant-Theatre/dp/B0060JSIGI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1403203077&sr=8-2&keywords=bee+house"]And a larger one for £18-99[/ame]

                Buy or build! just a framework cut to size with lengths of bamboo cane inserted. Ensure there is a short overhang at the front.
                If you are going to put one up it needs to be in place by the end of this month.
