  • Northumbrian Shorebirds incl. BIFs (image heavy)

I've just returned from a couple of days photographing shore and seabird on the Northumbrian Coast. The weather was bright for a short while and then became slightly overcast. Unfortunately most of my shots were taken in the late afternoon owing to the state of the tides but, although I thought I could have done better, I am happy that I have a few keepers. A lot of the birds were some distance, up to 200 metres offshore - especially the sea ducks who never come closer than 100 metres, so quite a few were taken using the Canon 400mm f5.6 plus the 1.4 TC on the E-M1. Some of the birds actually on the shore are using the 75-300mm.

    Common Gull:

    Blackheaded Gull:

Curlew attempting to swallow a small Dab:

    Oystercatcher:

    Purple Sandpiper:

    Turnstone and Purple Sandpiper:

    A trio of Redshanks:

    Eiders:

    Rock Pipit:

A large flock of Twite (and a couple of Goldfinch):

Common Scoter and an Eider (100 metres distant)

Sorry about the large number of images.

Enjoyed going through these David. Can't decide on a single favourite. Certainly a rewarding couple of days.

A superb collection, David - excellent work. That gull in flight was a very good capture with your 14-150
