Going way beyond the limited HDR built into iOS, Pro HDR X dynamically analyzes the scene in realtime and provides up to 10 additional stops of dynamic range. For the first time, Pro HDR X now uses three separate full-resolution exposures to generate your HDR, giving you maximum dynamic range with minimal artifacts and noise. And we still also offer manual mode for those who wish to select their exposure points by hand. Plus, there’s even a new slider that lets you fine-tune exactly how much HDR effect you want after your shot is captured.
Not only does Pro HDR X feature a massive leap in image quality and speed, we’ve totally redesigned the UI, bringing a modern iOS 8 look and feel to the app. We’ve hand-crafted the interface to perfectly suit each device’s native size and resolution, from the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5S, and of course to the new iPhone 6 and 6+, both of which get custom new layouts and optimizations. And we haven’t forgotten iPads, which also feature brand new interfaces perfectly suited to their larger screens.

I've been using PRO HDR X for about two weeks. It's certainly much faster (instantaneous vs. several seconds of analyzing) and the results are very good. In side by side tests the original version sometimes is better.
My wife and I have been on the road for five weeks and will finally return to Vermont at the end of the month. We'll spend a month there before spending the rest of the winter out west.
We've taken thousands of shots with a Canon EOS Xsi (Sigma 18-300), a Samsung Galaxy Camera (not a phone) and two iPhone 6's with Pro HDR and Pro HDR X. In addition I used Snapseed for some post processing of the iPhone shots. Here are a few samples from the iPhone. All but the dragon shot used one of the Pro HDR versions.

What outstanding shots. I particularly like the one with the lamp and the Bird of Paradise flowers and the sky that speaks to me. Also the dragon and the hot air balloon
Okemo Mountain "unretired" me for the month of January so I'm back running one of the ski racing operations. One of the advantages is that I get to go up on the mountan before the lifts are open to the public. The snow is unmarked and makes for some interesting photos. These are both iPhone shots. The black and white shows what skiers call "corduroy snow" - the result of giant grooming machines.

My wife and I retired and have been on the road since November with our Canon DSLR, Samsung Galaxy camera and our two iPhone 6s. Here are a few of the iPhone shots we've taken. In most of them I've used a free post processing tool called Snapseed. A couple of these might have been taken with the Samsung.

I've enjoyed following this thread. So many great shots.
I too did a side by side comparison of an iPhone 4 and a Top Pro DSLR. When set to the closest match of resolution, field of view and shooting in "P" mode, using as best I could the same subjects & composition, lighting etc., I resized the images to Web Size. There were differences, but the DSLR images were no where near the 8 times better, than should be based on cost comparisons
