It's much clearer tonight. I don't know whether the misty glow in the original makes it better or not? This was taken using an Olympus Pen E-PL3 instead of the Nikon J1:

I'm loving your pictures, all of them bringing J ballard (Shanghai Jim) to mind for me. Although the book is infinitely more detailed, it was there on the banks of the Bund where he was separated from his family.

I believe the opening scenes of Empire of the Sun were also filmed on Nanjing Road, at the end of the road near the Bund; the place where he was separated from them.

Thanks for uploading the automatic loo to flickr too. Very hygienic.

Basically in the last 15 years or so there has been a massive boom in the city and most of the skyscrapers in the picture were not there 15 years ago. The Waldorf Astoria on the Bund where we are staying used to be the Seaman's or Shanghai Club in the 'colonial' days and is on the side of the river that has many more old buildings from that era. The opposite side where all the skyscrapers are was, I'm told, largely farm land until just a few decades ago.

Yup, quite a few hotels now include two washbasins in the bathroom His and hers! The loo door is glass but it's like a shower door, so it's quite hard to see through in reality

I'd love to go there but it's never going to happen. I suppose it must be very crowded and very noisy these days, masses of people and masses of traffic.

I'm loving your pics though. I imagine the river cruise must've presented you with wonderful photo opportunities.

Here's another batch of Nikon V1 shots:

It looks like an alien spacecraft, but this is a pleasure cruise boat taken last night. I like the menacing dark form of the cargo ship behind it

                Buddhists praying with incense.

                Buddhist temple.

Very few people here (apart from policemen) are reluctant to have their photos taken - so refreshing!

All these images are taken using the Nikon V1 with either the standard kit zoom or tele zoom, mostly using full auto mode, and then the camera JPEGs were cropped and tweaked in Lightroom 3.5.

Pretty sure he was an engineer fixing the aircon unit. He had a harness and safety tether, but it was funny that he was on the phone up there

You've got some superb people shots amongst this latest batch! I especially love that picci of the little chap with his mother (last but one) .. and 'resting in the park' is such a great candid.

Love the 2 guys resting on the bench.
The one on the right seems to have a strange design on the soles of his shoes, look like cog wheels

We went to a Canonese reastaurant last night and one of the attractions (besides the excellent food) was a Chinese opera performance:

The Nikon V1 has performed very well here, I feel.

I agree about the V1 performing very well for you. I love this Chinese opera picture and the colours, detail and clarity are consistent with the other pics you've posted from it. A very impressive selection imho.

The finer details on this restaurant picci are amazing. Every fold, every shadow, every detail showing beautifully and the colours are fantastic - as are the skin tones as far as I can see.

And I've just been looking at the exif for this restaurant (opera) picture and have to say it's even more impressive considering - ISO 900, no flash.

Heck, even the long feathers on the head-dress of the chap on the right are visible in such excellent detail - clearly defined against the folds and colours of the backdrop.
