Re: had a shoot with Kat yesterday

Some great shots Peter, I expecially like the first one, but do agree about the hairs.

I would also ensure your models dont wear bright white for these shoots, as they are so difficult to meter, and in a couple of these shots are slightly blown.

Also, have you ever tried to put a slight gaussian blur mask over the top of these, then reveal the eyes, nose and other facial feature, it has an effect of softening the skin which can look pleasing (and flattering!)

Yes it is strange I just do not spot these things and when someone points it out I just knew I should have clones the hair out on the first one . I must admit my heart did sink a little when I saw the white dress as I knew I would have trouble it it. I did pick up a tip elsewhere about a work around in light room which helps a little but then again if it blown its blown and no hope of getting it back.

I sort of know what you are saying about the skin as I had this same thing a week ago with Ruby when Patrick picked me up on it. I did a little work on the skin and the eyes but not to blur it. Not sure how to put this ??. She is a pretty young woman who has nice skin do I really want to make her look like a china doll. She knows what her skin is like and it is not for a cover of some hight fashion magazine. We see this issue coming up on the news about teenage girls feeling bad because they do not match up to the stars in the magazines so what do we do. I for one prefer the real look of skin and not the so fake china doll type of look. Maybe that is just me ?

Ah, Peter, dont get me wrong, it certainly isnt to everyones taste, so I totally understand where you are coming from, and your right, she is a lovely girl, and certainly doesnt need that kind of treatment. I was just curious as to whether this is a method you have experimented with as the results can sometimes create a pleasing effect, its something that I use quite often, especially on wedding shots.

Sincere apologies if you felt I was knocking your model, that certainly isnt what I meant

No problem. No apologies needed. I have a habit of saying what I think and do not always put across what I mean in the right way and this has gotten me in to trouble at camera club more then once . I can/have done that type of effect before and yes I do find it hard at times to do which may well be another reason why I do not do it often. Also if I was going to use something for a competition then yes I would put a lot more work in to. I did pick up a mag today just for this very reason as it has a write up on skin smoothing which I will read and see how they do it.

I plan to do some stuff indoors over the next few weeks and will work on these a lot more just to see what I can get out of them

Re: had a shoot with Kat yesterday

                  Thanks Guys

I watched a few light room videos on you tube and have picked up a few tips so may well use it more often. I did flick it in to cs as well to give a few extra tweaks but most of it was in LR. I only did the face to around just below the chin as I wanted to know what people thought.
