  • Fortnightly Salon Competition #36 - TRANSPORTATION

Following on from my bike pic of the last salon I thought it would be relevent to have a theme along those lines. So the theme is :

    'Transportation'

All I ask is that you explain when and where your pic was taken and a brief intro would be nice.

Bonus points for images containing planet friendly transportation devices, original content that nobody else thought of & images that are new that you specifically went out to take for this salon.(lose points if its a piccy you've had in the loft for 20 years) by all means still post, it might be an exceptional shot that we all must see.

    Deadline for entries - 14th March 2008.

Good luck and lets have everyone joining in please
Thanks Ben for choosing my shot in the last salon.

This is so cool, I can't wait to see ALL of your entries.

    cheers
    Ash.

    The Rules:

    1) All photographs are to be uploaded to the photo gallery at http://dpnow.com/galleries/
The resulting link generated for the photo will then be pasted into the next available space in the Salon thread. Please keep photos to a Max 800 pixels wide so people can see the whole image without scrolling

    2) One entry per user ID only please, which must be the personal work of the entrant.

    3) Entries should be "In line" within the thread (not as links to an image held somewhere else, any external links or photos held anywhere other than the Galleries will be deleted.)

    4) Comments only on entries are welcome within the salon thread itself.

    5) After the close the curator will indicate a winner and a couple of runners up.

    6) The curator's decision is final.

    7) Winners should be offered first refusal to choose the next theme and curate the next salon.

    8. If the winner is unable to curate the next salon the current curator may offer that "honour" to any willing volunteer, possibly the entrant in second or third place.

    9) These rules are to be copied and pasted with a new theme by the new Curator at the top of the new Salon thread with a finish date and time.

    10) As with all photos posted on DPNow, copyright remains with the photographer and DPNow will not use them without permission.

Re: Fortnightly Salon Competition #36 - TRANSPORTATION

Mine is something a bit different.

This bus stop is located outside the old childrens hospital, which you can see in the background, that has been closed down recently (and about to be demolished to make way for flats) and re-opened in a brand new complex the other side of town therefore rendering this stop unemployed!

Here is the picture followed by a brief history of the place......

The Royal Alexandra Hospital for Sick Children – affectionately known as The Alex – was officially opened in 1881 by their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Wales, but its history goes back further than that, to 1868 when the original Brighton children’s hospital opened in a private house in Western Road, Brighton.

In the ensuing years, the Alex became arguably Brighton’s best-loved hospital.

It has a long history of progressive and innovative paediatric care embracing medicine, nursing and related professions, paediatric nurse training and research.

In June 2007, the new hospital opened on the Royal Sussex County Hospital site - the state-of-the-art facility has won an international design award and continues with offering pioneering paediatric care.
It is not technically the best picture you will ever see but I hope you can see this the way I seen it early this morning whilst driving past.

Re: Fortnightly Salon Competition #36 - TRANSPORTATION

I knew exactly which photo I was going to take for this, but I had to wait until Sunday for an opportunity to do so. To me, there are few things more pleasurable than pootling around in a rowing boat in my favourite place in the world - Studland, Dorset. I've included the second photo (also taken on Sunday) not as part of the competition entry, but to show you all my favourite little bay. It's so sheltered. It's great for swimming and fishing too!

The most basic form of transport. This is just a candid, taken with my phone and slightly cropped. It was taken in Northampton's main street yesterday. This gentleman passed me - it was his coat that fascinated me, thought he'd been paintballed, but what do I know about current fashion?

This was taken in the main shopping street of Jaipur,India and the chap with the rope was wondering how on earth to secure the load so that he could safely 'transport' it to it's destination.

This is a view of one of the Main Staysails (no idea which one) on the clipper sailing ship, "Star Clipper". She carries 170 passengers and sails in Thai waters during the winter months. We were lucky to be able to spend a week aboard her during our recent holiday in Thailand. And fortunately there were lots of nice sailors to do the hoisting too! (To get a sense of scale there are a couple more shots in my gallery).

Public transport is the lifeblood of any large city. My interpretation gives a feel for the rush hour as people are leaving for home

We couldn't have a transport subject without a train so heres the Flying Scotsman with a dodgy makeover.

The sun sets on Torksey Lock, Lincolnshire.

Canals and their narrow boats, an idyllic form of travel today and fairly planet friendly - especially when horse-drawn!
