    Re: Fortnightly Salon Competition No 3

    One week down, and one to go!

    So far there are eight entries for Salon No. 3.

    Where are all you photographers? I have seen quite a few Newbies. Why not let us see what you can do?

    Hope we can increase the number of entries this time. If we get another eight during next week, we will do.

    Come along all of you who have not yet submitted an entry. Give the ones that have a run for their money.

      Barely enough wind to move anything for the past few days.

        Typical, it's been like a hurricane here for the past 2 days!

            The forecast in the UK, at least, is for a lot of windy conditions in the next couple of days, which is just as well as the current salon finishes in just two days!

                  OK here you go then

                  This was taken in the summer of 2002 at a beach near Abersoch, North Wales. It was a grey and windy day so I converted the picture to mono and sepia toned it. It was taken using a little Canon Ixus 300 point and shoot. It's a crop, with about half the frame dispensed with

                    About time too lol

                    Looking at the photo took me back 20 years (I feel old now) when I would help my Grandad by looking at photo's of people looking into space, spot the ball, anyone ?

                      BLOWING IN THEWIND

                      As there are only 10 entries, I am going to make a few comments about each one.

                      I am an amateur and have been interested in photography for about 7 years when I joined our local Photographic Society:

                      GoatsmilkukBearfaceCoupekidArchangelPolStephenSplMowgliPopsIanNow comes the extra difficult part.

                      I have taken into consideration:

                      In third place, Stephen, with his beautiful picture of the windsurfers;

                      In second place, Goatsmilkuk with his most unusual monochrome;

                      and

                      In first place, Coupekid with the delightful image of his nephew.

                      So congratulations to Coupekid, who by default is now the Curator of the next Salon. Please copy and paste the rules and start a new thread with a theme of your choosing.

                      Thanks to everyone who entered and for making such an effort to give your interpretation of the theme

                        Nicely done, Autumn! You set a hard theme to live up to

                        Apologies for not making it clearer about the kite topic in my one

                        I'm really looking forward to Ben's theme (reckon it will be time to invest in waterproofs, an extra long tele and a hide )

                          Very well done Audrey, a great summary and assessment. I thought it was a great topic for a Salon, and I did something I don't usually do and went out to shoot specifically for it.

                          Congrats go to Coupekid for winning, I'm not taking bets though on his theme for the next one

                              Congratulations to the winner and looking forward for the next salon competition. Personally I found this specific theme interesting because it is rare. Not many people have generally many "windy" pictures.

                              A few comments about my picture:

                              It was taken years ago with a Nikon F50 (film camera) and scanned for the specific competition. I couldn't do a harsh crop because I wouldn't be able to pass the feeling that I was on top of a clif of an island taking this picture of the ferry passing by down in the sea. I couldn't take the photo with the ferry off the center, because there were no other objects around to fill the empty sea frame. Besides that, it would look like that the ferry was travelling with some extraordinary high speed not be able to be photographed in the anticipated moment.

                              Indeed the photo is very blue, but it is realistic since the sea and the sky here in Greece are very blue naturally. I got many photos with sea and sky that are that blue. Also if the photo had some more exposure the effect of a very windy winter day would be more than a sunny summer windy day, which was not the case.

                              Anyway, I guess there are different approaches and interpetation of photos by different photographers and actually that is what makes photography very interesting and challenging
