Re: Fortnightly Salon Competition (NO 16)
Hi Jocelyn,
Sorry for the delayed response. When I had time I had no internet and when I had internet I had no time
.
The building you asked about is a "Bottle Oven" (or "Bottle Kiln") and was a kiln used to fire china. Bottle kilns were used to fire many forms of pottery and tiles. The building is now part of the Coalport China Museum (http://www.ironbridge.org.uk/our_att..._china_museum/)
They were once a very common part of the industrial scene but are now quite rare.
