Re: RESULTS OF.... Fortnightly Salon Competition (NO 16)
Congratulations on your win Jay, a very vibrant shot. Thank you Jocelyn for an excellent theme and also for having the daunting task of choosing the well-deserved winner. Looking forward to your theme Jay.
Stephen, your work I admire so much! I regard you, Ian & Andrew & Tim as truly professional people whose workmanship is extremely difficult to surpass!
Well that's very generous of you; thanks
Stephen, Andrew and myself have won the salons a number of times between us and although it's very flattering when it happens, it's also obvious that there are plenty of folk here with sufficient natural talent to beat us to the prizes. And it isn't as though we're not trying to beat them, either...
People have expressed concern in the past that it's harder to acheive success in the salon without professional equipment or experience, but the evidence shows that anyone with a camera and a strong eye for composition can produce winning images, and that's a great thing. Hopefully the successes of our less experienced (but no less talented) members will inspire more people to take part in future salons.

I have to agree with Bearface 100%. As Jay said his winning photo was taken with a HPr717 which is a p/s camera. He also has a dslr but at the end of the day its not what you have but more how you use it. If you saw the view of the pond with the castle behind it on a normal day you would think nothing of it. But he came back at night and got the view that you now see.

Absolutely! It's fair to say that one could quibble about some of the technical quality aspects of the winning picture, but what we should (and Jocelyn did) focus on is the visual impact of the overall picture. From that point of view, it's a winner!
