    Re: Fortnightly Salon Competition (No.11)

Well, this is my favourite inanimate object.

Its a model of a lambo, my favourite car, I look at this little model every now and then when I lose the will to work...... and think about what one day could be mine!

Maybe not a car to everyones taste, but from the age of about 10, I have always said i will own one one day!

          Re: Fortnightly Salon Competition (No.11)

I almost gave this salon a miss because I found the subject too wide (or narrow) but it wasn't until this evening that I realised that this worthless record which is also invaluable and irreplaceable is something that I would really miss..

It is my fathers slide catalogue which he kept until his death in 1964 which I use on a regular basis whilst scanning the collection to the computer.

              And The Winner Is...

Well, it's time once again to choose the winner of this latest Salon, the theme of which was "My Favourite Thing". I've been genuinely fascinated (and occasionally amused) by the spectrum of interpretations and while some of the images are closer to my own vision for the theme than others, they're all very impressive and imaginative in their own way. It's also been interesting to get just a glimpse of your lives or at least the faintest idea of what makes you tick, so thanks to all those who participated.

These are the shots which I feel are particularly worthy of mention. If your shot isn't listed here it's simply because I'm referring to those which hit the spot for me personally, and therefore by no means should it's exclusion be taken a measure of your photograph's success or failure.

Firstly, Pol's DVD player and films. It may have been because I'm a Lawrence of Arabia fan and because my 8yo daughter has a DVD player just like the one featured, but the image clearly and unpretentiously represented one of life's simple pleasures for Pol and therefore for me it fulfilled the brief remarkably well.

Tom's daughters' pottery sculptures appealed to me on a similar level. Again it's entirely personal, but a parent's pride in anything their children achieve is something I can relate to, and through the photo I felt we all got to share in that feeling to some extent or another.

For their abstract qualities I actually liked Matt's CD image and SPL's light study. Both demonstrated that it's possible to take these interpretations to the Nth degree without losing sight of the theme itself. Andrew's blank sketchpad showed some serious lateral thinking, so he deserves a mention too.

Ben's Lamborghini model was nicely processed and had a certain dreamish, retro quality about it. It spoke to me without the need for me to read the explanation, which is impressive stuff. Plus I also want a Countach

Stephen's laptop image caught my eye thanks to the amazing background and the way it made the machine appear to be flying through the stratosphere towards the viewer. This clearly took some time and effort and the result understandably deserved the praise it received.

Finally Martin's late entry, the photo of his father's slide catalogue, really touched me. Not just from a sentimental perspective, but because I find the entries (particularly those in the "comments" section) charmingly honest and often self-critical. There was someone who could be truly objective about their own work. The slide was a nice touch too.

However on this occasion one shot appealed to me more than any other for it's simplicity and sheer style.................

              ................the winner is.................

Stu's fantastic guitar and amplifier image, which was made via a light-painting method using a household torch. For all-round effort, execution and adherence to the theme, this is easily my winner.

So congratulations to Stu - very well done indeed. It's now over to you to produce our next theme and then begin a new thread in this section (this will be the 12th salon), copying and pasting the rules from the head of this one and giving clear notice of the theme, it's start/finish date and of course any criteria you wish to include. The salons currently run for two weeks.

              Best of luck

Great choice of a winner Tim, and good of you to include your comments, its all helps to add some reasoning as to how your choice was made and how you saw the images fit the criteria of the theme.

Well done Stu, I too liked your picture. I look forward to your choice of theme for the next Salon
