  • Iphoto advice

Since recently going fully mac, Im gradually exploring the wonders of all the mac programs. Ive found iphoto a nice program to browse and slideshow your pictures with, however it seems to stop there with its plus points unfortunately.

Ive always liked being in full control of my images and no exactly where they are and what is saved and where.

The problem is after loading all images into iphoto from a folder, if any images are moved or folders altered iphoto does not seem to rescan and update its library, unlike say picasa!
Also if you do a quick edit on a pic it does not give you the option to save the original as it was, or what file format for the new image or where to save it.
I want to cut down on the amount of programs and simplify my workflow and this together with elements seemed like a good solution.
    Any advice or tips.
    Ash.

I only ever seem to use it for slideshows, though it does have a few redeeming features, as a committed Lightroom user its hardly worth the effort to bother with it for anything more.

Thanks Ian, it was great, if somewhat tiring. The country though is to be recommended. Many of the coastal towns are a photographers paradise. More later.

If you use iPhoto to move or better copy images it does keep track of those left in its own database. I haven't tried just moving them out of the folder. If you were to do this I suggest that you would also have to move the thumbnail too.

If you edit or crop an image in iPhoto it always makes a copy of the original which you can retrieve at any time by going to Photo/Revert to original. You can also make copies of photos to edit them differently.

The worse thing about iPhoto is the difficulty in finding out about the options!
