  • Vivid Eyes - Please critique

    Hi everyone,

Would love your critique on this image please. Had a fun weekend with family and a few wine's later resulted in this vivid series of 4 (see my gallery).

    Here's the cropped version

Thank you Dave, what is it about the bricks - the colour?

For what its worth I much prefer the uncropped version Gina, though what you girls get up to in your own time is your own business

In my view its simply the fact its a brick wall harsh and not the prettiest thing in the world, and as the wall is out of focus, its very distracting.
I have seen this sort of composition done before in fact I have my own versions.
It works best with soft fabrics or netting that sort of thing give it another try the idea is worth pursuing.
Here is something I did a few years ago, taken with an Olympus E10.

Thank you Patrick for your comments.

I was just taking candid shots of my daughter and neice with wacky make up on, I wasn't trying to create a masterpiece that evening. I put it up for critique because I like the vivid colours. I agree what has been said about the wall being a harsh distraction though.

The beautiful image of Anna you show is stunning.

We all had a fun time anyway, photography can be fun and I try not to get too fussy about it sometimes.

              Cheers

I understand you were having fun, and a good photographic idea has emerged. Get them in that wacky make-up again and some more suitable peak above/round props and you could come away with some stunning images, and have a lot more fun in the process.

                  Thanks Patrick,

I just bought some UV make up and a black light so will be doing some experimenting with that soon. Many thanks for your advice.

                    Hi Gina

I just think the bricks spoil a very pretty face but as the other guys say there are other props out there.

very cool Gina, but agree about the bricks.

Have your tried a selected desaturated version, knocking everything into mono except the girl?

Hope you dont mind, but attached is a very quick example of what I mean.
