  • Black and white village

    Dear All,

I would welcome feedback on this one. I wanted to capture the way the street lights lit up parts of the village but other parts were completely dark. In colour I found the yellow of the lights distracting and a B&W conversion seemed to work.

    thoughts?

    Best Regards

    Josh

    Re: Black and white village

I don't often see this type of image and rarely done as well as this.

For me the only thing I'd alter is to crop/remove the window on the left top third, what looks like car light trails in the bottom right and try cropping the top by between 10 to 20 mm (on my screen)

You will often get comments about night shots needing some of the late twilight in the sky. This for me is far better as the lack of people reinforces the feel of an image taken in the dead of night.

The high vantage point that it was taken from is also well chosen as it adds to the feel of "watching over the village"

I enjoyed this picture a lot.

Thanks for the comments. Re the window do you mean the one at the far left near the top of the picture which is brightly lit?

Re the car trails, embarrassed to say I didn't even spot them so thanks. I will remove.

This brings back happy memories of when we were down there this time last year, we only stayed a couple of hours. I would have loved to have spent more time exploring. The tide was out when we went and I remember thinking it would have been a lot prettier with the tide in

Oh and I like the B/W take on the village

Yes the bright window is the only one lit and draws attention, so distracts for the overall image. There is also a triangle of brightly lit wall just above that window which you may also want to try cloneing out and see if that improves the overall image.

I've returned a couple of times to look at the shot and I still think it has a great feel to it...

              Hi Josh

Like this shot - well done. It's nice to go back to B&W for a change.

Very nice shot Josh! I do agree with comment of cropping a bit off the top, as it seems a little too much black sky! Pity the tide was out otherwise there may have been reflections on water included! The conversion is great though!

I mean this is the nicest sense -

It's a clever picture. I really like it immensely.
Apart from Graham's suggestions it is one of the best I have seen in some while.
