I like it................................enough said............ Seriously I like the moody bleakness, I think stephen we may have similar tastes for the moody shots. It makes me think of Arthurian legends and the like, so if it is trying to speak to people it is a fine example as originaly posted IMVHO
Thanks Mike, you should do it more often
I acknowledged that the first may have been a little dark for some. For me the first is still more moody, and this has been achieved to a great extent by that sky. I can see why the second version may be preferred though.

For me skies can be a very important part of a landscape shot, and are a great feature of this shot IMO. I was never that keen on Rons idea, thinking it was cliched, and for me what he has done has spoilt the sky somewhat, sorry Ron I'm surprised no one has commented on his effort frankly. I could perhaps live with the crop, mine is the full frame and TBH I'm happy with it, but a little off the bottom is not detrimental.

Anyway, many thanks for everyones comments and input, I appreciate it and am gratified that it has inspired some members who don't often offer critique to do so in this instance

Now I've got to be perfectly honest with you Stephen. Your second image is just about perfect for me. I don't have the luxury of a calibrated monitor so that could well be why. My comments regards the Shaft of light were intended just for fun. I wanted to hear your reaction to my suggestion. Well when you said go for it, I had no choice but to follow through. All done with the best intentions.
