      Re: Another Macro

I'm also a fan, and a macro shooter, of flower shots against a black background, though I've sometimes been 'whacked' for it by 'M'.

I've only used the method in the garden, where I look for something I consider a bit 'funky' about the chosen flower. I have one somewhere of a large Poppy waving "TTFN" to me with it's last petal, before dying back.

It would've been shot at somewhere around f/32 with the ring flash. I'll see if I can find it.

Here it is. I'd used the Pentax 50mm f.2.8 + the ring flash (exif still in the file) ... right side tubes only were probably used rather than the full ring. Shot this one earlier this year

See how he's waving "au revoir" to me. I like the nice cap on his head too. You have to relate to and talk to your flowers then they respond and communicate with you y'see.

          Hi Pops,
A beautiful photograph of a beautiful subject, cant add much if any techie critique as I am new tio digital, as a contrast to other views I do prefer the current squarish format, this image would look good blown up and hung on a restraunt of tea room wall.

Actually no, due to the small aperture the flash had a very limited range, blacking out the background.

I love this shot, it's a pity there is only one petal left because I would have liked to have seen the poppy with another petal of the same colour at the back left, but then that's just me!

The colours and shapes are exquisite and it is a great shot.

As a complete beginner I am learning a lot about composition on this site and am hoping to learn more as time goes on.
