Sorry, this one doesnt really do it for me.

The composition isnt quite right, the dust (?) on the right hand side is a distraction.

In my opnion, this is one of those occassions, when a much wider angle is needed to see exactly what is going on to cause all that dust.

Another thing, which I am sure wasnt an option for you on this occassion, is to get down low to give a much more dramatic angle, but i am guessing you were in a land rover of some sort.

This Dust was caused by the Wildebeest Stamping its feet, That was the main Idea, to Capture the Dust, as he Charged onto us.

Jip, There where no Way of getting Lower in this one Unfortunately.

Hi Lou, I can see what you were trying to achieve,
have to agree that a wider view would have been preferable, to see the dust dissapearing to the viewers right and out of the frame, (Like smoke from a fire). and also to see more of the environment. That said I like the image, they look as if they could charge any minute.

            Wow

I wouldnt is the honest answer! this is so much better than the cropped version, here we have a real feeling of space, the envirnment, and what is going on.

I would rotate the picture to get the horizon straight, crop or clone the hoof on the left, and leave it as is.

Lourens, being from South Africa myself & knowing what the habitat is like in winter...the dry, tawny look of Africa ...the dust & dried grass...oversaturating the pic does nothing for a photo in this case! I have to agree with CoupeKid that by just cropping out the hoof on the extreme left in original & leaving pic as is, would probably do the photo more justice! It really gives the feel of the moment and environment more!

Jolly good. A fine record. Don't alter and don't listen to advice on composition. You grabbed it as it happened, thats the important thing.

Err.......... just to clarify Nitfie...................... the advice on composition has resulted in a much better end result. I'd hope you would agree with that

Are you writing about composition or cropping Stephen ?

In fairness the OP (Lou) asked about cropping in the full image. I don't want to get involved in semantics but cropping the original results in the final composition. I'd suspect that so far as composition in the camera is concerned there was very little, Lou just pointed the camera as quickly as possible and shot the image. With respect, the implication of your comment was that no heed should be made to any advice about composition and therefore the cropping. I therefore commented that this advice had resulted in a better image. I hope that makes sense
