  • Which is best?

    Hello all,

The pictures you are about to see were all the same picture , just edited 3 different ways. I can provide an original if needed. I just wanted some opinions. I posted all 3 because i feel that something is missing I just am not sure what it is. Thanks in advance!

    Re: Which is best?

    Hi Jennifer,
nice portrait. Just my preference notes.
The mono version looks to me the best.
The color version - the background is a bit noisy (not in the electronics sense) especially just in front of the face. That could distract viewers' attention from the portrait.
The cropped mono version - just too tightly cropped to my taste. Want some more space in front of the face.

If you are not satisfied with the first one, then I guess it might be more decent space in front of her face and not in the back.

I prefer No1 and with a bit of a crop from the right and some levels adjustment and sharpening this is my result

Oh yes and a darkening vignette applied to the corners

        Nice portrait Jennifer.

My first thoughts were that I like the last one best, but on reading Yoshi and Stephen's notes, I think No 1 is the best and I like the minor adjustments Stephen has made.

Look at Stephen's and you see a professionals touch. I'm starting to "get" this "negative space" thing, even with a tightish crop. (Well just starting to anyway!)

I'll agree with all the above. I'm unusual, in that I do prefer colour portraits, but Yoshi is right - the background is too 'busy'.

Like Audrey, I initially preferred the 3rd shot, but once again Stephen has shown how it can be done and his treatment is superb. (In other words, I prefer the 1st one!)

You're not on your own Caz, I normally prefer any type of coloured photograph.

I think Jennifer has a seriously good photograph here and she should be very proud of it.

Got to be No1 and Stephens adjustment make it moreso.

Looks as though I'm not destined to agree with anyone today

It's the second for me; I like the space in front of the subject and the landscape format. But in mono please, as it would reduce the impact of the OOF distractions.

Nice pics...I've gone for the arty option with this one, hope you don't mind!

First of all congratulations on producing this novel approach to the portrait.
The mono for me and as for the crop I would fancy something between 1 and 3. 3 is interesting but maybe that little bit too close.
