    Hi,
I am Dianne and this is the first image that I have ever uploaded. It is a iris from our garden and was just waiting for me to photograph it. I loved the translucency and the water drops. The angle was as it was. I provided a black background to eliminate other plant material growing behind it.

Brilliant Dianne and a great first photo on the forums. I'm not usually a great fan of flower specimen shots, usually they are pretty boring. When well done though they can be stunning and I appreciate a well taken quality shot.

To me this is one such shot. No need for a sudio here, you had all the natural lighting you need, everything is well lit and the addition of a black background and made the flower pop as they say You have the camera position spot on for this particular flower and the angle of it is just right too. Not only this but it is pin sharp, there is no blowout of highlights, and detail is evident throught the scene.

IMHO this is a lesson in flower photography for all those newbies who aspire to such things. Well done
    Stephen

Gorgeous flower and a lovely shot! Stephen said it all.

Did you use black card for the background? If so, what size was the card?

I am into flower shots and this one is a beauty. You have composed it perfectly. The shot is not only a credit to your photography skill but also to your gardening skill. Nice touch to use your own background.

Trevor I have always thought your images were very good. They do say that behind every great man, there is a great woman. Dianne has proved that with this beautiful shot. Must be great to have someone to share your hobby with. Well done both of you, and welcome to the forum

                    Re: First image displayed

I like photographs of flowers and every now and again one pops up that stands proud. Your iris is one such photograph. It has all been said, beautiful fluid colours, I can almost smell it. The beard, frilling, veining and water droplets are most eye catching. Not to detract from a lovely photograph can I ask what the small circle is just below the right hand petal? A beautiful first photograph, welcome to the forum.

                      Hi,

First of all thank you all very much for your encouraging comments. Blithe the round mark is a water droplet that is trapped under the transparent sheath that covers that area.
