The answer to these questions is simple, however much it is twiddled and diddled it is not yours to twiddle and diddle with, and using it is more than likely a breach of copyright. It will say on the box or on boot up or both, copying in part or whole is a breech of copyright or something similar, probably in stronger terms with dire warnings of criminal actions.
The original that is manipulated and played with is still based on someone else's work and still their copyright.

Im just talking about the creative side of making images and it being your own work as in making it, not having copyright.
Everything we 'see' are actually a self projection within our 'heads', the 'photon' that falls on an object could only seen by you and nobody else. Take a look at this clip:
