Re: First ice and snow, then drought and now flooding!

I own a condo near a ski area in Vermont and we've been hit with some challenging conditions. This first shot was taken in August 2011 after Hurricane Irene. My building is just out of view to the left.

And this was last Friday night. That's Fahrenheit. Converts to -26.7 C. The furnace wasn't up to the task. Good thing I bought my wife an electric blanket for Christmas!

Driving back to Connecticut on Monday took double the normal time as cars and trucks kept sliding off the road in an ice storm. Monday night my ski race was cancelled because of warm temperatures and heavy rain!
If you're not living on the edge you're taking up too much room.

It's as though the world climate has gone crazy and heck knows when, or if, it'll ever settle down to 'normal' again.

Our heating failed the last week in November just before the extreme conditions started to bite. We cursed at the time but it's just as well we had everything repaired, new wiring etc before the weather got any worse.

There's a A Year's 'Wild Weather in Two Minutes' video just appeared on the BBC website. It sums up the crazy extremes around the world during the past year. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-25651343

        Was your condo flooded?

Of course we have been suffering from all your second hand weather - warmed up to rain rather than snow!

At last we are being promised some more settled weather towards the end of the week.

My unit is on the third and fourth floor but the ground floor units had four feet of water inside. All unit owners had to share the cost of replacing heat, water, electric systems as well as beefing up the damaged foundation. This is a shot of my building after the water receded.

And this is the highway just west of our place. Normally the river doesn't even flow within a quarter mile of the road.

Wow - reminds me of a similar issue here in the UK. An apartment block had to be demolished after a normally quiet stream turned into a torrent that washed the ground away from under the building. Foundation pillars perhaps 12 feet deep were exposed by the water but with the soil washed away the building was declared a write-off.
