Long story - but it's precisely because of 'real life' and one or two people who have caused and still occasionally cause me a few problems. Briefly -I prefer that certain people can't always 'see' me and know I'm online and therefore assume I'm 'available' to be pestered in real life/real time.

I use nicknames for the same reason. I never use my real name online either. It's a nuisance but better than being hassled.

OK Peter, cards on the table
The reason it says 'Seriously Addicted' under my name is that I'm a moderator for DPNow and have been for some years. Consequently I had access to this new forum before it was made public, and I had the ability to put my user title on. I think the option has now been removed, but Ian has left my title there, maybe because he know me pretty well and knows that I don't usually broadcast the fact I'm a Mod.

I may be wrong, but I think User titles usually change after 50 posts

You can't see my name, even though i'm in here. That's because I've checked the "use invisible mode" in the user CP options.

Look at the top right corner, immediately above "join date". you'll see #18 then a pair of scales and a small red triangle icon.

Click on the scales and that opens a window which allows you to "rep" someone. If you click "I approve" you add to their 'rep points' and they gradually get more small green squares/blobs. If you "disapprove" they lose
points. There's also a small window where you can add a comment . eg why you're repping or maybe disrepping them.

To see your own rep points, who repped or disprepped you and read their comment (if they left a comment, you don't need to leave one) go to your user CP and click on the small arrow icons beside "show reputation".

The more posts you make and the more rep points you acquire influences your (rep power).

I'm invisible on at least 2 other forums, cos I don't want everyone to know I'm on the board. However, the Mods can see you if they are of a mind

                        Well thanks for that Pol.

I was just going to ask what Rep Power meant. You have answered it for me.

As you are so knowledgeble, here is another one I am guessing at the meaning of.

BETA - I keep seeing it all over. How is it pronounced? Better? Beta? (Greek alphabet)

Does it mean "A better one" ie Forum? I googled and looked in the on line dictionary, but couldn't really find the answer.

                        Hope someone can help.

I've explained briefly to Peter earlier in this thread (previous page I think).

I've been 'invisible' for a long time over in the 'other place' too.

In this situation - it just means it's testing the forum software........ looking for any glitches.
