I do not consider myself to be a 'pixel peeper' normally, but in this shot I was very surprised by the clarity of the image. Most response to that particular lens is that it is considered as 'rubbish' and I felt that the picture goes a long way to disproving that. I agree with Pol that if you are trying to produce a good portrait one should always consider the background and at least use a cloth free from wrinkles as a start.

Optically, I have found the Pentax kit lens to be OK. But like several other kit lenses, the manual focus gearing is ridiculously high, which is annoying. I think it's less than quarter turn from closest focus to infininty. But at least there is a reasonable focus ring grip, which some others can'ty afford their user.
