Hi Robert, I tried both Olympus cameras with NR on and off but to be honest I could see little obvious difference.

I recorded the test images in RAW too and I will publish some comparisons later on based on these, which have alse been requested by others. I will also have some DXO Analyzer noise results to share with you soon.

Sorry for such a short repy but the sun is shining brightly today and I want to take some test pictures in the sunshine before it sets

      I absolutely agree.

On the practical side: I get much, much better ISO800 out of RAW + a RAW converter than I do out of JPEGs.

and on the test-wise side: It is conceivable that you can get

      1. better images out of converted RAWs at 800 out of camera A than out of camera B.
      2. camera B has a better in-camera JPEG noise reduction/control than camera A
      3. camera A's converted RAWs beat camera B's JPEGs.

And then, how do you communicate that to a newbie who's looking to buy his first DSLR?

Re: Here are the full frame views from each camera...

I could not enlarge these to see any noise they all look very similar except the A100 pic is sharper in my opinion.

These discussions always go round in circles. The image quality is what count. Some of my best images are taken with a Minolta Z2 4mp. The light at the time was fabulous so hence great images.
The older I get the better I used to be!

I swear by an ancient 3MP Olympus C-330. It has produced some superb A3 prints.
