Re: Hello from Words (Sussex)
I know you have been around since we retired the old forum
Glad you like the new one.
Just had a look at your gallery and I'm impressed at how close you got in the young fox picture. Have you befriended this one?

Re: Hello from Words (Sussex)
The fox in those photos is the only one of the young foxes that has stayed around through autumn. They tend to disperse around September time (adults kick them out of the territory). He was one of the bolder ones (been known to try and steal the lens cap hanging off the camera) and seems to be challenging the mature male for this location. In those two photos I was about 3 feet away and I reduced the flash to its lowest point to limit any burnout and background illumination.

Re: Hello from Words (Sussex)
Hi Words, from Saskatchewan.
Seeing your site, you must have a way with foxes. Maybe you could come over here and help me get a picture of a fox that occasionally visits the site of a house I'm helping to build in the country. It's a beautiful animal with a luxurious red winter coat (definitely not faux fur
) but only shows up when my camera isn't handy so I don't have any shots of it yet. Got any tips for me?
(This morning, we found a present it had left for us to deal with -- the carcass of a skunk that it had killed during the night. A bit gruesome and malodourous.)

Re: Hello from Words (Sussex)
Hi Blank Page,
Not much advice really. When we first realized a fox was visiting I spent hours outside waiting very quietly until he showed. First photos were invariably terrible (eyes glinting in the distance, that sort of thing). I left tidbits out to tempt him closer (a handful of sultanas is fine), kept very still, didn't approach him, until eventually he got used to me. After that it was fine. In the end, he'd come up to me. Some of them just stay wary though and are next to impossible to photograph without a zoom.
The fox in the photos I've posted here was part of a litter born in March, and they spent their first few weeks above ground in our garden so they never worried about me being there. I'm just part of the background to them
