Hi folks,

When I was 11, Someone gave me a second hand (Minolta I think it was) rangefinder.

No Google, no manual, no photo forums. I worked out DOF, motion, grain and have been smitten ever since.

I MUST have been smitten!!
I have more or less seriously owned about a hundred cameras and many, many more lenses, for varying lengths of time. Some to collect, some to fix and resell, some for fun, some for pro use.

In the '80s I supplemented my hobby with weddings, portraits and a little industrial photography.

I still have SO many negs so scan!

I find the recent Micro Four thirds cameras outclass My Mamiya RB67 outfit by very a large margin, which only slightly surprised me.

We are so lucky these days and should spend less time complaining, arguing about technicalities and more time shooting!

Looked at some of your pics and what I have seen are very different to the norm. The ABC radio shots feature some very techie stuff. Must have been an interesting visit.

Hi Pops,

It WAS a great visit - Audio and picture history all in one place I won the visit with a local radio station.

All I had to do was tell them why I should go .. That was very easy ..

Their 'tog was completely disinterested and brandishing something big. I shot it all on the new Zuiko 17mm/f1.8 that I had pulled out of the box an hour before ...

It made the EM-5 look like a little OM-1, the excellent IS helped and the compactness always help one to stay unobtrusive. Don't want to take over the proceedings, eh?

I have a HEAP more to post, but I am still feeling my way with SmugMug.

Why'dya leave god's own country mate - just kidding. I'm an expat (as a todder) kraut.

I was on the u43 site, ogling the 40-140mm/f2.8 - I'm saving for it.
Next time you guys get a sniff of having mitts on it (or any other new u34 hardware, please consider bringing a little dressmaker's cloth tape measure.

Length, filter size and circumference divided by pi. I can't find anything reliable on those specs
Or .. if you know someone who can get their hands on that 40-150 mock up, several of us would kill for those 3 dimensions (and how CLOSE) they say it is) .. oh, if you have some little scales

I'm guessing it'll be 188-193mm including caps and if it matches the 12-40's image quality and handling, they'll be on another winner.
80 to 300 (35mm equivalent AOV) at f2.8 - SO VERY useful

I like the rumour sites, but u43 can more than hold its own so I mainly look in mainstream arenas.

Having shot Theatre/Musicians in the 80s with 400 ASA pushed to 1600, I can say we are ALL extremely lucky these days. Those OMDs are just brilliant in dim light and trounce my RB67, even at 3200 ASA vs (say) 120 roll Ilford processed in Perceptool.

I reckon OVFs are now easily good enough to see better than the photographer in dim light now.

In the band/theatre work on http://photohounds.smugmug.com - the light was coalmine-like at times, but ... the EM-5 still pulled a few more than acceptable shots out of the gloom.
The glass pentaprism big boys couldn't shoot at all.
