  • Hello from China

    Hi,

I moved to China in 2007 for a year, and I'm still here!

It's a contradictory place: a county living in two centuries at the same time!

Photo opportunities abound, but I don't get much time to travel around as I have no car, and my work keeps me busy weekends.

I have an Olympus E-400, my first foray into digital following my earlier film days when I had a Canon EOS 5 and far too much gear than my talents could use.

I used to use DPR a lot, but find this site a bit more pleasant to read, so I'm going to try this for a while and see how it goes.

At the moment, I'm deliberating a move to micro 4/3 as my original reason for buying the E-400 was that it was the world's smallest D-SLR, and I do travel a fair bit.

I'll post some of my images to the gallery and see how we go. (I used to post as DavidJ1609 in the E-Systems forum.)

    David.
PS. Disclosure: The competition drew me here a while ago, but we've had our busiest month ever, so I hope I can be included!

Hi David - I was very fortunate to visit the massive Nikon factory near Shanghai last year. Shanghai was an amazing place to visit and I stayed there for the best part of a week and also went to see some sites outside the town.

Which part of China are you located in?

        Hi David -

        Welcome.

I hope you do stay as I am hopeful of seeing more of China through your eyes.

Some might suggest I am an Olympus fan (with Ann1e (Anne my wife) following close behind) but I so enjoy the colours and lightness of equipment offered with 4/3rds.

        Regards. Barr1e

Suzhou - near Shanghai! It's called the 'Venice of the East' or 'Paradise on Earth' - both not true; although it is a quaint old Chinese water/canal village with a city of 10 million built around it now!

          Pudong Skyline anyone?

Yes Ian, you have some lovely shots there! That last one is a cracker, and the misty/stormy night shot has so much atmosphere (pardon the pun).

I've often thought a photo-tour for a group would be great in China - but in Spring, and away from the typical tourist areas; except Shanghai, which is a must!
