  • Ricoh announces the GXR Interchangeable Unit Camera System

Here is a summary or excerpt from an article that has just been published on DPNow:

The new GXR is an interchangeable unit camera system in which lenses are changed by using a slide-in mount system to attach camera units to the body. The lens, image sensor, and image processing engine are integrated into the camera units so the body itself does not contain an image sensor.

Re: Ricoh announces the GXR Interchangeable Unit Camera System

It is kind of a fun answer to the fractured rumor of last week. One rep was quoted saying that, "the sensor is not where you'd expect it". While some (including me) thought that this implied folded optics, the truth was in another direction
Could this concept lead to cartidges with normal lens mounts? Ricoh Receptor body + Pentax K mount module, including sensor + K mount lens......
Also module with a small mega-zoom lens and a small sensor to keep it small.....sensor-lens tayloring...

I love this idea, it is great that a company is ploughing its own furrow. However, I guess that it will be too expensive a system for a casual user on a tight budget.
