  • Picture of the Day, Thursday, 16th Nov 2006

Andrew Thatcher's wondrous colour and mono creation is a novel take on the words 'Red Riding Hood'. It has nothing to do with wolves or grandmothers in bed! See Andrew's picture now and ask yourself if you are up to the task of being selected for the DPNow POTD too. All you need to do is exhibit your pictures on the free DPNow photo gallery and maybe we'll be in touch!

Very well done, Andrew. Excellent, well though out processing.

Charming in one sense, intriguing in another sense .... and probably very true about him being a 'right little hoodie' at times - like when he isn't getting his own way.

Julia pointed out to me that there is a similar theme of a girl in a red dress against a mono background in the Spielberg movie: Schindler's List. I wonder if Andrew was inspired by this at all?

I've seen some extremely nice photos in Andrews gallery. Generally it looks to me that Andrew knows exactly what to do when holding a camera in his hands. I like this photo more than a lot. Actually I found the theme outstanding, iregardless of the duotone effect which is also very succesfull.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Ian I've not seen all of that film I know about the girl you talk about, so its was in the back of my mind when working on the photo. But i think the film "Don't look now" was in my head at the time.

Pol i know what you mean but his not a bad little chap

Archangel Thanks for the kind words. Not to sure i know what I'm doing most of the time

          Andy.

I am not really a great lover of black and white pictures, my logic on this is we were born with eyes to see colour so why take that away, having said that I have to admit that is some cases the mood of the picture is completely changed when put into black and white. I like this idea of splashes of colour ( I first saw this demonstrated in a photography magazine some time ago) and in this picture it looks really good.
            Great picture of the day.
