I think the kiosks concurrently feed at least two printer units each, so the kiosk rated performance is probably accurate. But I will check with Sony.

I do agree about fade resistance - dye sub doesn't fare very will in tests and even dye-based ink-jets prints are pretty good in this respect now.

Ah yes - it's quite clear in the press release text: "..

All I did was read up on the specs on Sony's website, http://www.sony.co.uk/biz/view/ShowP...Photofinishing

A newly developed adaptive thermal print head enables the UP-DR150 to operate at high speeds when producing any print size. For example, a 10 x 15 cm (4 x 6 inch) image can be printed in approximately 7 seconds. When using 13 x 18 cm (5 x 7 inch) paper, a print can be made in approximately 13 seconds. A 15 x 20 cm (6 x 8 inch) image can be printed in approximately 15 seconds.
If it could do 3.5s, I'm sure they'd be saying it can do 3.5s.

How is that "quite clear"? It says 3.5 seconds each. If you have one photo to print, will it be printed in 3.5 seconds? No! Therefore it is not 3.5 seconds each, it's two photos in seven seconds. Why not put 7 terminals there and claim one second per print? Or 14 terminals and claim 0.5 seconds per print? How soon before a competitor produces a 4-head kiosk, still taking 7s per print but claiming "quicker than Sony at 1.75 seconds each"? How soon before the statement becomes ludicrous?

Of course, it's not worth worrying about. Just not standing about like a lemon waiting for your photo is good enough. I just don't like over-hyped claims that are there solely to grab headlines. Personally, I'll stick with my Picturemate.

Well if you're that sensitive about a possible 3.5 second addition to your print order, I'd avoid my local Asda - they never have half the things I want to buy

              I know, I know...

The thin end of the wedge, though.

I wonder what price these photos will be? Cue the headline "Photos for 2p each... if you buy 14,000 photos...".
